The Joker

I've been playing this game. For oh so many years.

The stakes are still the same. But there are different size tears.

I can see my soul. Discarded to one side.

The Joker with two faces. One to make you laugh one to make you cry.

And I can see your smile. And I can see your pain.

Come out here awhile. Let's go dancing in the rain.

And I will do just fine. I can do what I have to do.

Or I could lose my mind. If I choose to think it through.

So I will try to make you smile. From the middle of my pain.

I don't think that is noble. And Lord knows I'm not vain.

I'm a joker with two faces. One for you and one kept inside.

But somewhere in these steel strings. My heart can't hide.

Can you see my smile? Can you see past to the pain?

Could you take a little while, and go dancing in the rain?

And I will do just fine. I can do what I have to do.

Or I could lose my mind. If I choose to think it through.

And the game goes on without me. No one needs a wild card.

But the joker has his dreams. The joker knows it's hard.

And there may be times, it looks like I've lost my mind.

But come look and you will find. A mirror shows your two faces to mine.

And I will do just fine. I can do what I have to do.

Or I could lose my mind. If I choose to think it through.
