Older and wiser

I was just nineteen years old, and knew everything I had to know.

I could tell you about tomorrow, I could even tell you which way the wild winds were gonna blow.

But something happened to me, somewhere along the way.

I must have forgotten, some of the things that I thought I knew.

But I'm older and wiser, than I've ever been.

I would talk to the old ones, and tell them what I saw.

They would smile and nod, but sometimes I felt like they were holding back.

sometimes they would.

Now I'm twenty nine, and the years seem to go by so fast.

Sure wish I could get back, the ten years that just have past.

And I met an old man, that didn't talk much.
But his eyes held a fire, don't you know, that I wanted to touch.

He said "I got this smart from being stupid, for many moons my friend.

And I can tell you the start to a story, but you've got to find your own end."

He made me older and wiser, than I've ever been.

Somewhere between nineteen and twenty nine I lost more than just ten years.
